bed-room-entrance-and-lounge-2These amazing pictures were taken at an off the beaten track resort on the west coast of Sri Lanka where we saw pods of acrobatic dolphins up close and personal, petted turtles on the beach and stayed in our own personal wattle and daub villa.

PLUSES Walked miles on deserted beach front in a very relaxing atmosphere with horticulturist Gemunu explaining the fauna and flora of the area. Accommodation was cool-our private unit had a comfortable bed room and sitting area with our own garden and unobtrusive staff gliding around noiselessly Outdoor eco “coconut tree” shower was very innovative. We lounged around the boat house playing cards and watching the distant horizon. But the highlight of the trip was our 45 min boat ride to see pods of dolphins and we even saw a whale.

MINUSES The approach road was very bumpy and there were no sign boards – In emergencies basic first aid could be provided, but drive to nearest hospital is in Puttlam, 1 hours away. Great experience, close to nature and one of a kind. We paid US$ 250 for 2 of us for one night all inclusive (excellent food, liquor included)  Ideal for families – 2 parents and 2 children can easily share one unit !!
